The Great Charity Bake-Off!

Customers and staff at the Blyth, Gateshead and Sunderland branches of HiQ have been tucking into pink cupcakes and drinking gallons of tea to raise £550 for Breast Cancer Care.

During the last month, as part of HiQ’s ‘Project Pink’, franchise owner Alister McGill offered customers that visited the garages cupcakes in exchange for a donation to the charity, as the network aims to hit it’s £100,000 fundraising target.

Alister, who operates five HiQ centres in the north east, asked his sister-in-law, 51-year-old Cheryl Ferguson, to take on the mammoth task of baking 300 cupcakes for his customers and promised a free cup of tea with each cake sold, along with the promise to double the proceeds.

Alister said: “We wanted to do something special to raise money for this fantastic cause and the response from our customers was brilliant! I want to thank Cheryl for her excellent work along with my brother-in-law Steve Brown who helped with the dish washing!”

Cheryl was keen to take on the task of the huge bake-off, as she has friends that have been affected by cancer and wanted to do something to support HiQ’s fundraising effort. She said: “Over the years I’ve made all the family themed cakes to suit their hobbies and personalities, but I’ve never baked on this scale before. There was a lot of work, skill and patience involved but I was only too happy to help.”

The £550 raised by the team brings the HiQ national fundraising total up to £96,000.
