Looking Beyond the Label
Tyre Labels Only Really Tell Half of the Story.
While it'll be quicker than ever to pick a tyre based on its fuel efficiency, grip in the wet or noisiness, the labels won't be of much use if you're looking specifically for tyres that excel in icy conditions. Or tyres that offer superior wear and tear. Or make light work of heavy snow.
Just pop into any of our centres and you'll find a HiQ tyre expert on hand to offer you assistance. Now as much as we'd love to offer you an all-singing, all-dancing tyre that excels in every field, the reality is to shine in one field often means compromising elsewhere.
Here's What You Need to Know
When does tyre labelling legislation come into force?
The legislation comes into effect on the 1st November 2012. However, the regulation foresees that earlier voluntary implementation by tyre manufacturers is possible before then.
Is the new legislation applicable in all european countries?
As with any European Regulation, this rule and legislation will be binding and identical in all European Member States.
Do I, as a driver, have any legal obligations under this legislation?
Other than driving within the normal legal requirements, you have no obligations yourself. Those responsible for ensuring legal obligations are met are the tyre manufacturers, tyre retailers and vehicle suppliers and manufacturers.
Does the label tell me everything I need to know about the performance of a tyre?
The label is a guide to tyre purchasers on wet grip, rolling resistance and noise level performance. However, it is just one of a number of useful tools to help you make an informed decision. Generally speaking, you should look for tyres that show very high safety level performance while also demonstrating a good environmental performance.
