We do…

At your service, whenever you need us

Prevention, so the old saying goes, is better than cure. And it's never truer than when it comes to looking after your car. A full or part service twice a year (one to prepare for the rigours of the winter weather, and one to get ready for all your summer touring around) is the best and most cost effective way to keep serious trouble - and garage bills - at bay. It's good to know therefore, that our highly trained HiQ technicians are ready, willing and more than able to give your car a thorough going over. Because they're fully up to speed with modern vehicle's hi-tech gizmos and gadgets, you can be sure they'll be able to spot and diagnose problems that even the most enthusiastic of amateur mechanic is likely to miss - or be unable to sort out. To keep your car in tip-top performance, why not book a service right now? Any one of our network of HiQ Centres will be more than happy to help.

You don't want to pay big expensive repair bills. We don't want to charge you big, expensive repair bills. So here's what we'll do…

Millions of breakdowns happen every year because of very common faults; faults that are usually caused by a poor service and maintenance. Here's the main culprits we check during your service.

Your battery
Is it fully charged? Are the terminals clean and protected from corrosion? Are clamps and connections secure? If it isn't one of the modern maintenance-free batteries, does it need topping-up? (See our batteries section for more details).
Your wheels
Are the pressures correct? Are the sidewalls or wheel rims damaged (can cause slow leaks)? Is the tread depth legal and even across the tyre's width? Is the spare up to scratch? (See our wheels section for more details).
Your alternator
This is your engines' own electrical generator, transforming mechanical energy into electricity to run most of your car's electrical systems. You can tell if there is a problem if your headlights dim when the engine's idling? Or the temperature rises rapidly Both of these could indicate a damaged or broken belt. Even if we don't see these signs we still check the belt anyway, just to be sure.
Your distributor cap
The distributor distributes electricity to the spark plugs. The distributor cap holds in place the wires that connect up the different parts. It's important that the protective covering over the cap isn't split, or that dirt or moisture can't get in. If they can, they could affect your ignition spark. And no ignition means no go.
Your liquids
Sounds obvious, but it's essential to keep tabs on your oil levels, radiator fluid levels and your windscreen wash. If any of these are leaking or running low, you could be in serious trouble.
Your brakes
It goes without saying we rigorously check these. Lights, pads and discs.
Your clutch cables
These are under constant stress so are prone to wear and tear out. If they wear out totally and snap, you lose engine control. And trust us, you don't want that to happen.
Your spark plugs
These are like dirt, soot and gunk magnets - all of which can affect performance. But they are easily and inexpensively changed.
Your leads
Like most things in life, they can deteriorate with age. So its best to keep a watchful eye on them so you don't suddenly lose a power or electrical connection at 70mph in the fast lane.
