goodyear OptiGrip
The OptiGrip tyre, with SmartWear Technology™, retains excellent performance even when it's worn, because new grooves and a new compound appears as the tyre wears down. As the tyre wears, the hidden channels below the tread surface are revealed. They facilitate efficient water evacuation, enabling the worn tyre to retain its resistance to aquaplaning.
- Worn aquaplaning resistance
- Dry handling and mileage
- Wet braking and handling
- New tyre handling performance
- Quiet ride

Our technical expert’s review
The Goodyear motto is "Safety Together" and this tyre is all about wet grip safety. As tyres wear it can become harder for the grooves to clear water. This tyre features a tread design that changes as the tyre wears. In tests by the TUV the tyres wet handling rather than deteriorating was actually getting better between 20,000 and 30,000 km!!

thought i would try these optigrips, having fitted excellence previously(which are infact an amazing wet weather tyre)
but then reading the tech on the optigrip i was excited to see if they were gonna be as good as they claimed, and they proved to be better than expected, the confidence you get when driving in the wet is sublime, when cornering and going around roundabouts they feel so sure footed and dont break away even when pushed ,these were fitted to my 98 1.8 A4 saloon ,ive since brought an a6 1.8t avant which came with pirelli p6000 all round with approx 4+ mmtred, and are totally useless wheel spin on pull off and esp kicking in on most roundabout exits especially with camber change, still having the a4,i swopped the rims over to the a6,the tyres had about 2-3mm of tred remaining and out performed the pirellis hands down, having taken these to the legal limit they are still better than the pirellis, but have had to swop them back,:(saving up now for a new set of optigrips :)
