Punctures and Temporary Spares

For answers to all your motoring issues, please select from our list of topics below. What ever your question you will find your answer here.

Can a puncture be repaired using a tube?

We do not recommend using a tube to repair a puncture. If the tyre is not professionally sealed and repaired, the outside elements may get into the structure of the tyre, so causing a potential weakening and failure.

How long can a temporary spare be driven on before it needs to be replaced?

Like a standard tyre the temporary spare can carry the same load and can also be worn down to the tread wear indicators. It may require different tyre pressure, for this information refer to the Sidewall of the tyre. The temporary tyre can be fitted to anywhere on the vehicle, but must be replaced as soon as possible by a standard tyre.

Can the temporary spare be used more than once?

Yes it can as long as it is kept properly inflated and the tread wear is checked.

Is it acceptable to use a temporary spare of a different size to the remaining tyres on the vehicle?

It is not advised to mix one size with another unless tested and approved by the vehicle manufacturer. In approved cases of mixing on the axle it would be a case of a temporary spare to use for limited distances and speeds. There are laws regarding temporary spares which include using different colour wheel rims to normal.
