HiQ Tyres & Autocare has collaborated with leading digital health company PocDoc to prepare and equip a community health vehicle at its Maidenhead autocentre, which is now being deployed across the UK to improve access to cardiovascular screening.

PocDoc’s Neighbourhood Health Bus was prepared and built at HiQ Tyres & Autocare Maidenhead, and is being used to deliver the company’s Healthy Heart Check product directly into local communities. The PocDoc Healthy Heart Check is a rapid, app-based test kit that provides cardiovascular screening results in under 10 minutes.

The project highlights how HiQ Tyres & Autocare’s nationwide network, backed by Goodyear, can apply its technical expertise beyond traditional automotive services. HiQ Tyres & Autocare operates a network of more than 230 autocare centres and service partners nationwide, combining local ownership with national support.

The team at HiQ Tyres & Autocare Maidenhead, led by Managing Director Steve Roest, carried out extensive work to transform the Citroen Relay 35 BlueHDi vehicle into a fully road-ready mobile clinic for PocDoc. This included suspension and mechanical repairs, a full service, MOT, Goodyear tyres to support the weight of the bespoke vehicle, and a complete exterior repaint.

The centre also installed a Starlink satellite broadband system, designing and fabricating a bespoke mount within the vehicle’s roof structure. This infrastructure enables PocDoc’s smartphone-based technology to operate reliably in a wide range of community settings, ensuring connectivity regardless of location.

The mobile health vehicle has been designed to take this technology directly into communities, enabling high-volume screening in locations where accessibility is often a barrier.

Steve Roest, Managing Director, HiQ Tyres & Autocare Maidenhead, commented: “This has been a highly rewarding project to be part of. HiQ Tyres & Autocare is built on a network of passionate local business owners like me who are deeply embedded in their communities. Working on the vehicle from the ground up allowed us to apply our technical expertise in a completely new way. It’s also been particularly rewarding to support a project led by my nephew, Steve, and to see how this idea is now being delivered in communities across the UK.”

PocDoc’s Healthy Heart Check is a clinically validated, smartphone-based test that provides results in around 10 minutes, measuring key cardiovascular risk indicators including cholesterol and heart health markers. The service is already being deployed in partnership with NHS organisations around the country, helping to reach patients who may otherwise struggle to access traditional healthcare settings.

Steve Roest, CEO & Co-Founder, PocDoc, commented: “We’re incredibly proud of our PocDoc bus and delighted with the work done by HiQ Tyres & Autocare Maidenhead. It’s a fantastic asset for our company and a major step forward in our mission to bring preventative testing directly into communities.

"What’s most exciting is that it’s already proving its value in the real world. We’ve successfully taken it on the road across the North East, North Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, reaching people who might otherwise not have engaged with testing.

"This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to expanding into many more parts of the UK as we continue to make early detection more accessible, convenient and impactful.”
