Tyre Safety Month: ACT before you REact!
Thursday, 1st October 2026
Every day, we face situations that are out of our control and threaten to disrupt our routine – from grumpy toddlers to delayed trains and everything in between! The same is true when we sit behind the wheel; bad weather, sudden braking, potholes and a whole host of other unexpected hazards head our way.
But did you know there are some simple steps that can help keep you safe before you even kick-off your journey?
October marks TyreSafe’s annual Tyre Safety Month and this year they’re asking drivers to ACT before they REact. Here are some simple checks you can do to help make sure your tyres are safe before you hit the road:
A – Air Pressure – Check your tyre pressure at least once a month and before long journeys to maintain braking performance, fuel efficiency and reduce the risk of tyre failure. Not sure what your tyre pressure should be? It can usually be found inside the driver’s door frame, the fuel cap or your vehicle handbook. Or you can use our handy tyre pressure tool.
C- Condition – Regularly check your tyres for signs of damage such as cuts, cracks, sidewall bulges or any foreign objects like stones or nails. Make sure you get any lumps or bulges checked by a professional in case they’re signs of structural damage. Contact your local HiQ Centre to get an expert opinion.
T – Tread – Check your tread depth to make sure your types maintain their grip – especially in wet weather. For passenger cars in the UK, your tyres need a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre around the whole circumference. Learn more about how to check your tread depth.
By making these simple tyre checks part of your vehicle maintenance routine, you can help keep your tyres performing as they should and reduce the risk of tyre-related incidents. So don’t wait for a near miss to act as your reminder – be sure to ACT before you REact.
