ITV signs British Touring Car Championship contract
It’ll be the longest television contract in BTCC history.
ITV will yet again screen the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, with the contract being signed by ITV until 2022. The BTCC has been broadcast on ITV since 2002, which means the most recent contract signing will take the partnership to a whopping 22 years!
The current contract runs until the end of the 2016 season, with the new 5 year contract commencing in 2017. ITV4 will be screening around 7 hours of coverage a day as well as highlights programmes throughout the season. In 2015, ITV screened over 230 hours of BTCC coverage.
The news follows the previous announcement that Dunlop will again be the primary sponsor and official tyre supplier for the BTCC for the next 5 years.
BTCC Series Director, Alan Glow, said: “This is fantastic news and yet more evidence that the BTCC is right at the top of its game. Not only is this the lengthiest broadcasting contract in the BTCC’s history but it’s also the longest sports contract signed by ITV4 – a real testament to the standing of the BTCC, not only in the motor sport world but also within mainstream sports broadcasting
“It’s been a busy few months for me, but to have now secured our title sponsorship, tyre and technical supply contracts plus this unparalleled new ITV deal makes it all so worthwhile.”
