A national tyre safety campaign has put the name of one of HiQ's flagship centres up in lights, after it was chosen as the venue for an eye-catching educational video.

TyreSafe has launched its safety awareness month from the forecourt of HiQ Erdington in Bromford Lane, courtesy of a viral clip entitled 'So simple an adult could do it.'

The piece, now on YouTube and http://www.tyresafe.org/ , features youngsters visiting HiQ to check their tyre treads in a novel take on the importance of checking tread depths.

It goes on to encourage drivers to use the '20p test' to determine if each tyre is legal and safe.

HiQ Erdington's marketing manager Emma-Jane Kisby was delighted to be able to play a part in TyreSafe's activity for the month by accommodating the filming team at the centre.

She said: "We are as passionate about tyre safety as anyone, so we were thrilled to be able to offer our facilities to the filming team and everyone at TyreSafe.

"The video looks fantastic and we would now urge everyone to take a look at it and remind themselves of the simple steps to take in order to keep cars legal."

HiQ Erdington is also offering free tyre safety checks throughout the month in case motorists want to make sure that their tyres are legal and roadworthy.

A spokesman for TyreSafe said: "As the driver of a vehicle, you are responsible for ensuring its tyres are legal and in a roadworthy state. Failure to comply with the legal minimum standards can result in fines of up to £2,500 and three penalty points - for each illegal tyre.

"This could cost your licence or even your life. UK law requires car tyres to have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread across the central three quarters of the tyre around its entire circumference. If this sounds complicated then all you need to do is take the 20p test. It's quick. It's easy. In fact, it's so simple even an adult can do it."
